✽ Before submitting the application, please read the Terms and Conditions and all the guidelines contained in this call. By submitting the request, it is understood that they have been accepted.
✽ In order to participate in the call, artists must register and become a member of the Associazione falía*. The membership fee is €10, which must be paid to the Association’s PayPal account or by bank transfer. The membership card will be provided in digital format to the registration email. If the member is interested in receiving a physical card, please write an email to falia.associazione@gmail.com.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
✽ Individuals and/or groups.
✽ No age limit (+18).
✽ By submitting their application, the artist commits to creating an artwork that will remain as a donation to the Municipality of Lozio.
✽ The theme of the artworks is at the artist’s discretion, as well as the medium and technique of realization. However, it is emphasized that the project must be site-specific and therefore have a direct relationship with the territory and the community of Lozio.
✽ For the 2025 falía* edition, at least 1 place will be reserved for an artist and/or collective who deals with Land Art/Street Art and 1 place for an artist and/or collective who deals with participatory art.
✽ To immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the residency and the place, artists can consult an essential bibliography on Lozio and Valle Camonica, some of which are available at the association’s headquarters and at the local library. They can also consult other materials that tell about some of the specificities of Lozio.

LOCATION AND COLLABORATIONS
The residence program takes place in Valle di Lozio, under the magnificent mountains of the mid-Valle Camonica, in Northern Italy. Here, in fact, lies the small Municipality of Lozio, a village recognized by the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) as the first Mountaineering Village in the Lombardia’s Region. Here, at about 1,000 meters above sea level, traditions and the connection with the territory are still very strong. The village is divided into 4 hamlets: Sucinva, Laveno, Sommaprada, and Villa. It is a “remote land” facing depopulation and with a very high average age. Despite this, this territory still has much to say and offer, and for this reason, through art and culture, an interpretation of the place is being activated to revive it.
Possibilities for on-site collaboration
Interested artist can work within the Casa-Museo della Gente di Lozio (House-Museum of the People of Lozio). It is an ethnographic museum that collects a series of typical objects of mountain and peasant culture, to which contemporary artworks created during the residency have been integrated since 2018.
Collaborations can also be established, depending on personal interests, with individual inhabitants of Lozio or other local entities. By way of example, some of the local organizations operating in Lozio are listed below:

Fondazione L’Arsenale di Iseo Prize
Located in the heart of the historic center of Iseo, the Arsenale is an exhibition space that hosts exhibitions and cultural events ranging from the artistic production of the territory to solo and group shows aimed at enhancing contemporary art.
In order to strengthen the network of collaborations in the territory and to trigger further opportunities for the participants of the call, one of the artists selected for the falía* 2025 edition, at the discretion of the Foundation, may exhibit in a show curated by the Associazione falía* at their location on Lake Iseo.
Visits and cultural activities
At the Association’s expense, a series of visits, and cultural activities to discover the Lozio Valley and the Camonica Valley are offered to the resident artists. The organizers are available for any requests for other visits in the area related to the themes to be developed in relation to the artwork.
N.B. A basic knowledge of the mountain environment is required to undertake any independent excursions.
MANAGEMENT AND DURATION
✽ The residency will take place during the months of July, August, and September 2025. The final presentation of all artworks and the general catalogue of falía* 2025 will be scheduled for the summer of 2026.
✽ Minimum 2 weeks – Maximum 6 weeks.
✽ The residency period should be agreed upon during the selection phase.
✽ The maximum period of 6 weeks can be extended only in agreement with the organizers and based on the artist’s needs for the realization of the work.
✽ The artist is provided with: shared accommodation and space of work; a weekly budget of 70 euros (which will be fully disbursed only upon presentation of the actual project); a co-production of the artwork (each project will be evaluated individually by the Commission, which will define the different shares due to each artist); a copy of the catalogue.
✽ In the case of collectives, the weekly budget is equal to the individual budget + 50% for each additional member of the group.
✽ The artist is responsible for the spaces entrusted to them during the residency period, and upon expiry of the agreed term, the premises must be returned as they were delivered. For this, a symbolic deposit of 100 euros is required on the day of arrival, which will be returned at the end of the residency period if no damage has been caused to the spaces and the structure.
✽ To further integrate and/or expand support and co-production, artists can freely suggest and/or propose their own sponsorship, partnership, and/or other contributions to support their project. Any new partners must be presented to the Commission for approval, if possible, already during the application phase. Upon agreement with the residency organizers, newly approved partners are offered the possibility of being included in the Colophon of the website, in official communication (paper and/or digital), and/or in the general catalogue of the artworks.
✽ Travel expenses, medical expenses and insurance, and any extras are the responsibility of the artist.
✽ Artists from the European Union can use medical services in Italy. However, it is preferable to have their own health insurance. For non-European artists, health insurance is mandatory. It is strongly recommended to send a copy of your insurance to the residency staff. The artist in any case exempts the residency organizers from any health-related issues, who therefore assume no responsibility for any medical expenses.
✽ The artworks can be set up inside the Casa-Museo della Gente di Lozio and/or in another location to be designated in agreement with the organizers and any owners. For Land Art and Street Art works in the village, along paths, and/or in the woods, the location can be decided and agreed upon with the organizers, the Municipality, and any owners, in compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
✽ Regarding photographic series, they must include both the physical work (complete or partial), which can take any form and installation, and the complete version of the series for the residency’s digital archive.
✽ The artist, in agreement with the residency organizers, must structure at least one event during their stay, such as a workshop, lecture, and/or open studio.
✽ In agreement with the residency organizers, it is possible to request the opportunity to host people external to the project for a fee. If it is not possible to accommodate them within the residency structure, the organizers remain available to help find other suitable accommodation in the village.
✽ Selected artists are required to bring a book of their choice to be donated for the creation of an artists’ library at the association’s headquarters.
N.B. The artworks must be completed by the end of the residency period. In this regard, except for exceptional cases agreed upon with the team, if they are not delivered by this deadline, the organization reserves the right to exclude the artist who does not meet the expected deliveries from the catalogue publication and to request a refund of the expenses incurred by the Association for the hospitality and co-production of the artwork itself.
SUBMISSION
✽ Artists interested in participating in the residency are invited to complete the online form and send all the required documentation to: falia.air@gmail.com with the subject line: Application Documents for Artist Residency 2025.
✽ The email must contain: a copy of the artist’s ID; an updated portfolio; a biography; a project draft with a plan of materials, budget, and timeline.
✽ To access the selection phases, the application must be complete, and the membership fee must have been paid.
✽ The submitted documentation must be in Italian or English.
SELECTION MODE
✽ Projects will be chosen at the incontestable discrection of the Committee.
✽ All submissions are reviewed by the Artistic Committee, which compiles a shortlist. Artists selected in this first phase must undergo a video interview, during which the residency curator asks questions related to their work and the proposed project. Subsequently, the shortlisted artists are presented to the Selection Committee, which makes the final choice.
✽ The official list of artists selected for the new edition of the residency will be announced by mid-June 2024.
✽ The selection criteria take into account the artist’s proposal, previous works, the artist’s motivation to engage with the reality of Lozio, and the potential connection that can be created with the territory and its community.
✽ The portfolios of all artists remain within the digital archive of the residency, available to the Commissioners for potential collaborations and/or other projects promoted by the Associazione falía*.
Committee
✽ The Artistic Committee is composed of:
Riccardo Angossini, curator and gallery owner;
Ettore Favini, visual artist and professor;
Silvia Inselvini, visual artist and board member of the Association;
Sabrina Melis, visual artist and professor who participated in the 2018 residency programme;
Alice Vangelisti, art critic, creator, and curator of the residency project.
✽ The Selection Committee is composed of the Artistic Commissioners, joined by representatives of the project’s main local partners.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
✽ The artist grants and agrees to the exhibition of the artwork created in a location to be determined within the territory of the Municipality of Lozio, to which the artwork itself remains as a donation. The Municipality and the residency organizers therefore commit to the conservation and promotion of the artwork.
✽ The artist is responsible for keeping the entrusted spaces clean and tidy, with a spirit of cohabitation and sharing of spaces.
✽ The artist does not have fixed working hours but can organize themselves according to their needs. The only limitation is respecting the deadlines for the realization of the artwork.
✽ In order to promote and collect residency activities, the artist allows to use the original artwork – or some parts of it – for promotional purposes.
✽ The artist assumes sole responsibility for the resolution of any claims from third parties regarding the violation of rights and/or requests for compensation for damages. The residency cannot be held responsible in the event of any dispute.
✽ The artist declares that the contents of the artwork will not violate the rights of anyone. In any case, the artist exempts the organizers from any liability for the content of their works exhibited in public. It is reminded that the works will be exhibited in public places and will be visible to people of all ages.
✽ By participating in the call, the artist consents to subscribing to the newsletter of the residency and the Association, which can be canceled at any time.
✽ The personal information provided by participants will be used exclusively for communications relating to the residency and the Association.
✽ Personal information will not be disclosed to third parties without the consent of the interested party. This information will be communicated to third parties only when strictly necessary for the operation and management by the residency and the Association.
